The second edition of the Policy Seminar follows as a continuation of the first Southern Neighborhood Policy Seminar (Amman, 2018), and the first Southern Mediterranean Civil Society Forum (Brussels, 2018). This second edition aims to strengthen the capacities of civil society to defend urgent issues through the process of direct dialogue with the European Union (EU), which will take place at the second Brussels Civil Forum on 2 and 3 December 2019.
The participants will take stock of Majalat process of structured dialogue between the South neighborhood civil society and the EU. They will discuss recent international developments, particularly in the south and north of the Mediterranean, and will focus on the development of the environment for civil society in the Euro-Mediterranean region. They will then discuss in-depth the priority entry points for direct dialogue between civil society and the EU, through the perspective of European positions and policies in this area. The participants will draw on the recommendations from the thematic workshops held in Beirut, Casablanca and Lecce in 2019 on Majalat's priority themes (good governance and the rule of law, economic development and social dialogue, migration, security and the fight against violence, as well as climate and social justice). The recommendations of the youth workshop that was held in Tunis in 2019 will also be studied.
At the end of the seminar, all the results and priorities developed will be communicated to the EU in order to prepare the direct dialogue at the Brussels Civil Forum on 2 and 3 December.
