Majalat's Youth Workshop (Tunis, Tunisia) April 24th, 2019

On April 24, thirty participants under the age of 35, and coming from eleven countries, participated in Majalat’s second workshop for youth.

The issue of employment and vocational training, which had particularly attracted the attention of young people as a key priority during Majalat’s first youth workshop in September 2018, was at the heart of the meeting agenda.

Cross-cutting issue - as are the other priorities identified by young people as migration, the fight against violence, or sexual and reproductive health - employment and vocational training are indeed a major challenge for young people in South neighborhood.

The workshop, organized by the Euromed France Network (REF), in partnership with the Maghrebian Migration Observatory and the Arab Campain for Education for All, enabled the participants to meet the European Union delegation in Tunis and to exchange ideas with their experts.

Then, after getting an overview about the tough situation of education and employment in the Southern Mediterranean, the participants reviewed EU policies, priorities and programs on education, training & employment in details. They became familiar with the actors and cooperation initiatives in education and employment in the EU and the Southern Neighborhood countries. They then proposed recommendations to the European Commission, in particular on the theme of economic development and social dialogue through issues related to education and employment.

This workshop, the results of which should be included in all of Majalat's future activities, promoted the engagement of young people from civil society organizations, trade unions and social movements involved in EU’s southern neighborhood and  strengthened the capacities of these young people to challenge the EU around issues that concern them.

This activity was organized on the eve of the "Jeunesses méditerranéennes" meeting (April 25-27 in Tunis). Majalat workshop’s young people, who were selected among 90 NGO activists from both sides of the Mediterranean, participated in the different activities.
