Tunisia
Security and countering violence

As part of its recent publications on "Dynamics of civil society in the southern Mediterranean region", Majalat is organizing a new round table on cyber-security, governance and the shrinking of the space of civil society and human rights defenders in the region. The meeting will be held on June 19, 2021 in Hammamet.

Aiming to present Majalat's recommendations and research with taking into account the regional dimension, the exchange will involve national policy makers, experts, representatives of the European Union Delegation in Tunisia as well as civil society actors.

In the midst of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP), themes of governance, the rule of law, security, in particular cyber-security, and countering violence have been deepened by publications and researches developped by Majalat which reviewed institutional measures and national government policies towards human rights defenders, journalists and opponents of regimes, the results of the EU's new partnership with its southern neighborhood on human rights and activists in the region, Internet and media censorship, as well as the shrinking space for protest and assembly. This work took into account the impact of the Covid-19 health crisis on the themes addressed, also looked at disinformation campaigns, the violation of privacy and personal data and the new forms of digital activism arising.
