During a press conference held after the closing of polling stations on Sunday, January 30, 2023, the president of the Independent High Electoral Authority (ISIE) announced a turnout of 11.4% in the second round of legislative elections. This compares to 8.8% in the first round of the same elections.

Young people, the main voters of President Kais Said, boycotted the polls with a turnout of just under 5% for voters aged between 18 and 25.

Reacting to these results, the main coalition of opponents called on the trade union centre, the Tunisian Regional Labour Union (UGTT), and other political parties to “join forces” to “remove” the President of the Republic.

It is worth noting that earlier this week, UGTT formed a “Quartet” with the Tunisian League of Human Rights, the Bar Association, and the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), based on the model of the “Quartet” awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015 for its role in the Tunisian democratic transition.
