Stricken by the worst drought in nearly 40 years, Morocco will benefit from a $180 million loan from the World Bank to support the resilience and sustainability of irrigation water.

Specifically, the World Bank’s funding will aim at improving the quality of irrigation services and facilitate farmers’ access to technical advice in this highly strategic area for Morocco, given that it contributes 21% of GDP.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Agriculture has announced that drought is expected to become more serious in Morocco until 2050 due to a decrease in rainfall frequency (-11%) and an increase in temperature (+1.3°C).
