Security and countering violence

The Libyan Presidential Council (PC) issued a statement on Wednesday 6 July 2022 announcing a plan to end the political division in the country and hold elections.

Asserting that this plan aims to “preserve the unity of the country, avoid war and division, limit foreign interference, and push towards a national settlement,” the PC statement did not however provide any details on this action plan. It did however specify that the CP’s number 2, Abdallah Allafi, will hold talks with the rival camps for a roadmap leading to the holding of presidential and legislative elections “according to a precise schedule.”

Thousands of Libyans protested in Tripoli and other Libyan cities on Friday 1 July to denounce the instability and political divisions that have led to a significant deterioration of the living conditions.
