The report reviews the labor market policy mechanisms implemented by the Algerian government in 2008 and assesses their impact on informality, employment and the informal sector. The report uses data from household employment surveys conducted by the NSO from 1997 to 2013. We examine the situation of three categories of population: employees, new employees and the self-employed, with a focus on the effect following registration to social security for employees, and also studying the effect following the administrative and fiscal registration of self-employed workers.
