This study assesses Libya's compliance with legal standards on women's rights and gender equality. It is a complex legal and factual research related to Libya's efforts to ensure gender equality and the opportunities and challenges that affirm women's empowerment and legal status.

As such, the report provides an accurate analysis of data related to the complex interaction between national laws, policies and practices, as well as social, cultural and religious norms that affect women's lives in Libya. The report focuses mainly on "real life" or de facto obstacles to achieving gender equality, some of which may only be the result of misrepresented or non-existent legislation.
