Migration and mobility

In a statement given to AFP, an official of the municipality of the Nigerien city of Agadez announced that the Algerian authorities have deported 847 people, including 40 women and 74 unaccompanied children, to the Nigerien border.

These refoulements are part of an agreement with Niamey and come as part of other expulsions by the Algerian authorities over the past year.

The head of the municipality of Agadez said that the unaccompanied minors were taken care of by the services of the Ministry of Child Protection, which was confirmed to AFP by a humanitarian source.

It is worth noting that, according to data revealed by the UN, Algeria has expelled tens of thousands of irregular migrants from West and Central Africa since 2014.
