Migration and mobility

Around 200 unaccompanied foreign minors gathered on Thursday 1 September 2022, the first day of the school year in France, at the Place de la Bastille in Paris to demand their right to education.

Being homeless, these young migrants seek to draw the attention of the French government to their situation. Utopia 56, one of the associations accompanying them, explained that all attempts to approach and question the officials have been in vain.

The association added that 45 of these young migrants have finally been recognised as minors and should be able to benefit from free schooling, in the same way as any child residing in France, regardless of their administrative status.

It is worth noting that the Federation of Parents’ Councils (FCPE) recently revealed that, due to a lack of accommodation, more than 1,600 children had to sleep on the streets this summer in France.
