Migration and mobility

Moroccan authorities have announced that they have rescued 38 migrants after their boat sank off the coast of Lamsid, about 60 km north of Boujdour.

Local media reported that five people died in the sinking while at least 13 others are missing, noting that the boat was carrying 56 people.

The boat, which was carrying Moroccan and sub-Saharan migrants, set off from the Moroccan coast towards the Canary Islands.

The Delegation of Maritime Fishing in the province of Boujdour recently warned against the navigation of traditional fishing boats between last Friday and next Wednesday, due to extreme weather conditions.
